A larp inside a gothic murder mystery novel.
𝟏𝟗-𝟐𝟏𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
The year is 1834. A passenger ship, the Esteban, departed from Alexandria before news of a plague outbreak could reach its ports. It finally arrives off the coast of New York – only to find itself immediately placed in quarantine. On board are an assortment of passengers and crewmembers, who, as tensions rise, are revealed to have history together.
On the last few days of its quarantine, a passenger dies. The authorities refuse to allow anyone ashore until it is proven that contagion is not to blame.
To make matters worse, a Great Detective is on board, and takes on the task of finding the culprit. This is unlucky for the crew and passengers of the Esteban, since everyone has something to hide, and most especially, something to lose.
Death and Denial is a larp in Gothic style: melancholic, intimate, and introspective. Although it unfolds within the scaffolding of a murder mystery, it is not the focus or intention of the event to solve the mystery. Instead, the narrative lingers on slow-burn personal drama, emotional unravelling, and the dread of quarantine.
